Who We Are

A Bath institution, built on listening.

Bath Kitchen Company is an independent, family-run design studio established in Bath in 1990 — at a time when kitchens were becoming commoditised and depersonalised by national chains. We set out to offer something more personal.

Three and a half decades on, our award-winning kitchens sit at the heart of many of Bath's most beautiful homes. Each one is personally designed by James from his Queen Square studio, then individually handmade by the regional craftsmen we have worked alongside for years.

There is no showroom. Every project begins with a relaxed conversation in your home — because every client, every home and every life is different.

The Process

Four stages, one perfect kitchen.

Every project moves through the same considered four-stage process — calm, transparent and refined at every step.

01 — Consultation

Initial Consultation

We come to you. A relaxed home visit to understand who you are, how you live, and the kitchen you're dreaming of. Initial ideas, styles, colours and materials — pressure-free.

02 — Design

Design Studio

James personally designs every kitchen from our Bath studio. Full 3D visualisation lets you walk through the space before a single piece is built — fine-tuned to the last sample and detail.

03 — Craft

Handmade to Order

No standard sizes, ever. Islands, worktops, cupboards, pantries, handles and finishes all crafted by regional makers with modern skills and old-fashioned pride.

04 — Install

Considered Installation

Detailed project management. Deliveries synchronised. Specialist fitters who minimise disruption and finish to the millimetre — your home, treated with respect from start to handover.

Our Approach

We don't have a showroom — and we never will.

Showrooms are for sales. They interrupt your thinking. They pressure your decisions. They sway you with ideas that aren't really 'you'.

Instead, we come to your home. We sit with you in the room where you'll cook and live. We ask careful questions. We listen. Only then do we design — quietly, slowly, and entirely around you.

No interruptions. No other customers. No pressure.

James personally designs every kitchen — not a salesperson.

All meetings by appointment only — your time, properly given.

The Designers

You will work directly with James and Sara — from the first conversation to the final detail. No account managers. No handovers.

James learned his trade the traditional way — a long apprenticeship working alongside skilled craftsmen and architects. He personally designs every kitchen Bath Kitchen Company produces, from his studio at 3 Queen Square.

Sara Horsfall

Designer

Sara was classically trained at the Sydney School of Design. She brings a careful eye for colour, proportion and material to every project — and a calm, considered approach to even the most ambitious briefs.
